I found out that I’m not very good at this whole blogging thing. Ok so a quick update on what has been going on… life in Africa has been great thus far. As a team we are growing and bonding, we becoming more comfortable with J-bay, we’ve spent a weekend in the African Bush (which was amazing but very, very cold) we’re easing into the African lifestyle.

Just a little Update…
During our weekend in the Bush we were given a list of ministries that we were supposed to pray over and see where we felt like God wanted us to serve for the next three months. We had to put them in order of what we would most like to do 1 being our first choice and 9 being out last choice. All of the ministries looked amazing but there was one that captivated me from the get go. It’s called Joshua Project and it’s a after school prograhm for street kids and abused/voulnerable kids. Everyone said that this ministry is HARD and that the kids are crazy and undisciplined… hearing that only ignited my desire to serve there all the more. After spending the weekend praying about it I filled out my paper with Joshua Project as number one I turned it in and left it in God’s hands. I wasn’t expecting to hear the leaders decisions at least for another week considering that they had 41 people to assign to ministries, but the next morning we had a meeting.
I was surprised when the leadership announced that they had already made decisions about our ministries. They said that the process was easier than they had expected and that it took them under an hour to assign over forty people to ministries, and they said that they got everyone in one of their top three choices. I was anxious as I heard them call out the names of the ministries and who was in them…. they went through all of them except Joshua Project… finally I heard my name called and I got it! I was so excited to see what God was going to do!
So for about two weeks now I’ve been working at Joshua project with my teammates Tyler, Kevin and Johannah and our leader is Matt. I am so excited and honored to be working under the people at Joshua, I work with a crazy dutchman named Jaap and a gentle woman from Holland named Karin. I have already gained so much just from watching them work and I can’t wait to see what God is going to do with our time at Joshua. Please pray for us as we learn the culture and how to connect with these kids that need discipline, love, and hope.
Soon I will write an in-depth update about these beautiful people. I just wanted to let you know a little bit about what God is doing and where He has placed me. Thank you all so much for your prayers and encouragement… it has meant so much. I love you all.
So excited, sis!!! Sounds like Joshua was made for you. Im praying for you and your team, and the kids you are ministering to. I wish i could be there. i know it is so amazing, and when i think that i could be in ministry now, instead of in class, i wish i could just leave and join you! but i know that we are right where God wants us, so i think ill stick around. 😉 anyway, you be dangerous kid, but be led by Holy Spirit.
love you!
Stephen

I am so glad to hear that you got the ministry that you wanted. That is such a blessing to have a heart for something and then be able to do it. I will be praying for you! have fun in africa. do you know if you are coming home for christmas yet or not?
I am so excited for you chica! I know that you were led to this ministry for a reason and that God has so much planned, not just for you but for these children too. I miss your voice and your encouragement, but then I remind myself that it’s selfish to wish you were anywhere but where you are. I am so proud of you. Love, love, love. Molly
God knew right where you needed to be! Congratulations on getting your first choice. May the children you meet be changed forever because of the love of our Almighty powerful Father!!Enjoy being His hands and His feet, Sydney. We are praying for you back home!!
Hey!!!!!!
Thank you for writing this!!
I have been dying for someone to write a blog about JP.
I worked there last year and I miss it so much! 🙁
Seriously – soooo much.
I hate not being there right now…***but I’m so excited for what God is going to do through y’all!
You will fall in love with those kids – and they will not give you your heart back!!
Get ready.
P.s. I know it’s weird that I am reading your blog and writing you a comment when you don’t know me – I remember the people who were FYMs the year before me would always write me and I thought it was kind of weird -but trust me – you will understand once you are back in America!!
Please appreciate EVERY single day you are in Africa.
And love those kids as much as you can!
Especially the days when they are being little punks!!
I am praying for you and your team! 🙂
